Fabric flowers tutorial

Hi everyone,
A little flower tutorial for you today.. I always scrap on a Friday night but last Friday just didn't feel up to a layout so I thought I'd give making some fabric flowers a go... these are cheap to make and you can co-ordinate them perfectly with any project depending on what fabric and buttons you use.
First I cut out a variety of circles using my big shot dies.... you could even just trace around a cup or bottle and hand cut the circles if you don't have a die cutting machine.
Then stitched around the outer edge of the circle with a basic running stitch and pulled tight. This forms the centre of your flower.
Thirdly just choose a button for the flower centre and sew in place.

To take the flowers to the next level, I grabbed some pretty ribbon - any from the Frills N Things category will work a treat (I've used the Pleated Satin Ribbon) and some Gingham elastic... I then made a large loop and glued it around the outer edge of the flower.

I made quite a few using different fabric, most with just calico and all with a variety of Craft Queen buttons.

We are super excited to have Cathy teaching for us at the Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft show in Brisbane this June. Cathy was a guest DT member with Craft Queen last year and we love her scrapbooking style. Cathy loves fussy cutting, texture, flowers, chipboard and colour. What a fabulous team we have this year. We will be sponoring 2 classrooms and running 6 classes each day of the 3 day show. Hi everyone,
A quick post today to show you 4 cards I've made all with the one design. This is a really efficient way to make cards. To mix things up I've used different paper and embellishments and moved elements around however the core design is the same.
This is the standard design, a wide paper strip at the bottom with layered ribbon over the top. The greeting and the flowers remain in the centre.

Products Used:

All I've done in this one is flipped the design so that the feature is at the top.

This one the feature is slightly more centred and I've used a circle rather than square/rectangle and no greeting but a larger single flower instead.

more messy template fun

A little while ago I showed a layout using ink with the Crafter's Workshop Mini Templates. This layout uses the same template, but instead of ink I have used gesso. I used a credit card to scrape the gesso through the template which gives a splodgy, random effect which suited my 'boy' layout. Because gesso is quite a thick paint it also leaves a slightly raised texture when it dries.

I've used the Authentique 6'' paper pad - journey to make these cards.

The tiny scallop edge punch and new pearl trim add the perfect edge to the cards. I stuck the pearl using 3mm double sided tape and just pushed the tape into a 1mm strip using my finger.

Available in 5 colours and the perfect width for cards.

The flowers can be used individually or a strip.

Martha Stewart doily edge punch with a twine trim.

The rosette ribbon can be easily alter using distress inks and glimmer mist.

These stickers make it quick and easy to add a sentiment to cards.

What better way to start the new year than to scrap with some old favourites! I've used one of my favourite photos and some old and new Craft Queen products for this layout.

A new product I have used is the Crafter's Workshop Mini template:

It's like a little plastic stencil, 6"x6" in size, and you use it for spraying glimmer mist, or as I have done in this case, inking and and bit of 'splodging'. I've 'splodged' (my own technical term!) through the template onto the corners of my layout using some Time Holt Distress Stain (walnut stain) which comes in a dabber...hence a little bit of messi-ness. (More information about these awesome stains is on the Craft Queen website - just click on the link to find out. They really do allow you to be quite creative.)

I've also dabbed some aqua coloured chalk ink through the stencil in a few places to add some dimension to my layout.

The die cut frames are from the Crate Paper Restoration 12" Collection Kit, and I've used some very old rub-ons as well. Nothing like using a bit of old and new!!

Hi everyone - it's Sandie here.

Just thought I'd pop in with a little somethin' I made yesterday using up scraps. I've been working the last couple of days making cards from scraps. It's one of my fave things to do and you'd be surprised at what you can come up with - just with a few odds and ends. I had some little bits of leftover ribbons/trims from one of Nicole's beautiful kits - naturally I cannot throw anything out so this card was perfect to use them up.

In the last couple of shots you can see the scraps of paper I used - I just cut a circle out of the small piece to attach to the centre of the doily.

For the doily I used Distress Stain ink to ink the doily. I just love the earthy green. Give it a try - it's really easy.

Inspired by some Prima flowers I bought recently, I decided to have a go at making some interesting centres to decorate some old paper flowers I had in my stash. This mesh ribbon is inexpensive and has so many uses to create texture and interest on your pages. I used it to cut a circle for my flower centres. My circle punches didn't particularly like being used for this purpose (but I went ahead and did it anyway!) but obviously they could be hand cut without too much trouble.

Well it's seems lately I am always chasing my tail - sorry for not being organized earlier Gwen.

So - here without further ado is my card for this month's challenge.

For this card I have turned it into a easel card - which I am a bit partial too of late.
I have used Kaiser patterend paper from the 6 x 6 pads - here. I have also added some lovely green apple twine, white lace, some cute little stars, little white pegs, white flower and these yummy lime crochet mirror circles.

Now with these last few pages I've used some gorgeous My Minds Eye Christmas papers....they are truly beautiful.

The green, net looking ribbon is not in the CQ shop but shall be added in the next few weeks.

My December Daily Album Cover

Now for my album cover I just found random alpha chippies and covered them with gesso...giving them about 3 coats. With the final coat I decided to add some texture by just putting a thickish coat of gesso then using my finger just dabbing here and there...the flourish (thingy)....is by Dusty Attic, just something I've had in my stash for ages. Once all was dry I then applied a few coats of Mod Podge, to give it some protection.

I'm really looking forward to filling my D/Daily with photo's now...so roll on December!!!

Not a very inventive title for this post, I know, but at least it's factual : )

I've used my scallop circle Nestabilities to frame the sentiment, but you could just trace around a suitable round shape such as a small saucer or the lid of a jar...I've also added some glitter glue to the sprig

Gorgeous card by Vicky using her favourite brand - Darkroom Door

Vicky has stamped the background of the tag using this stamp set and the word ' joy' from the same set.

Vicky stamped the background using the flourish stamp and vintage photo distress ink.She has then stamped it again heat-embossing it with Versamark ink & gold embossing powder, I then lightly rubbed same DI & distressed the edges further with an edge distresser.

Starting a December Daily.

Kim reporting for duty...hehehe!

I here some of you saying what is a December Daily????
A December Daily is a daily photo journal for the month of December....some people choose just to take it to Christmas day but others carry it right through till the end of the year.

Have a look HERE....at the master of such projects, and to get an idea of what it's all about.

Now, since I have rather a large brood, December Daily helps to get me, some christmas mojo....which sometimes I lack....but so need...(if I don't make it special...no one else will...oh! the burden...lol ).

Now onto What you'll need

a folder or album cover ( it's up to you what size etc)

I used a small 8"x6" one last year but I found it too restrictive, so this year I've purchased one of these from Officeworks. A4, 2 ring binder. Then I covered it with gesso (2 coats).

I'm not sure just yet what I'm going to do on the front... (keep you in suspence) ?????
Next I sourced some gorgeous supplies and also looked through what I already had.

How yummy does all that look....drool! I've tried to stick with more traditional colours but you can do what ever takes your fancy.
I plan to use a mix of homemade stamped transparencies ( made with Stazon Ink and some wonderful christmas stamps, also Darkroom Door background stamps) and some of the Collections Transparency range....and just adding a bit of this and that, to make it look special.
I am also using calico on some of my pages.

[ days/pages 1-6 ]

You will also need cardstock or patterened paper cut to your required size ( for each day of the album)
Note......you can purchase transparency film in a pack of 20 sheets from newsagency's or office supply shops. It is a bit pricee but you get a really good effect.
Also a hole punch.
With the cardstock I have gone into microsoft word and just created a simple boarder then added 2 text boxes on the lower portion of the page for journalling (larger box) then just added the name of the day in the smaller box. Best to just fiddle around and workout what you like and fits your pages.....I suggest you just print a sample onto plain paper before using your cardstock.....freehand boarders look pretty smart as well.

I've done alot of machine stitching as well on mine as I just love the look....

A quick little card to share today with my new fav ribbon...

I'm going to go all out and say, if you are a card maker... you NEED these stickers!!!

This design is super quick and great for those left over bitz you have that you're not sure what to do with... Don't throw them away, you can use up as little as 10cm if your card is vertical - and if you only have 9cm, just trim your card to fit the ribbon you have!!

Be sure to use a pink ribbon and then add some stamping and you can enter it into this months challenge too!

Here are 3 extra cards to add to todays mix of Twine cards.

I have used the green/white bakers twine again for the first one

For the next card I have used the very fine jute/twine. It's ever so fine and oh so nice to work with. I have tied it around the butterfly a couple of times and then added a little trail behind the butterfly. Bonjour papers by Kaiser were used for this card.

And then for the final card I have used the beautiful navy twine. I have used it on the cotton reel and buttons.

Hi Everyone,

A layout to share today featuring some of our gorgeous wooden buttons and Kaiser Rhinestone words. These buttons are super pretty and make perfect flower centres.

To create this layout, I added paint first then layered up the paper and lace. Then the flowers and bling word.

When is a button not a button?

When it's been turned into a thumbtack topper! Look at what Nicole created with some gorgeous buttons and some thumbtacks - too clever don't you think!

Step One - choose your buttons

Step Two - glue thumbtacks to the back

Step Three - use your pretty new button thumbtacks

I covered a canvas with some padding (only because the canvas had a picture on it) then I just chose some pretty ribbons I wanted to display and now I have a pretty ribbon display board. The thumbtacks go through both the canvas and padding easily. You can just as easily use a corkboard or similiar!

Thanks to Nicole for a fantastic way to use buttons.

The peace stamp is from this Darkroom Door set.

Vicky has used our new printed twill ribbon, red double stitched and our red and white button. She has tied the button with tiny twine. The paper is Kaiser 25th December.

The joy, Merry Christmas and round Christmas stamps are from the same set.

Tissue paper by Collections - white but can be altered with glimmer mist, distress stains, tea dye etc. It is actually stronger when wet.

Tissue paper - Day 2

For this layout I really wanted the photos to stand out so I created a background that used minimal colour but still retained a boyish grunge. The 7 Gypsies tissue paper - numero is very similar in colour to Kraft cardstock so I scribbled some PVA glue across it and adhered pieces of tissue. Once it dried I tore around the edges and applied a few random stampings of the Tim Holtz stamp - Games using the Tim Holtz distress ink pad - peeled paint. I really think he should have named this colour "grass stain" because that is just what it looks like to me!
Other embellishments used are:
Tape meaure ribbon - inches vertical twill
Jute twine
Sequins - black stars
and of course my trusty sewing machine, stapler, and a piece of corrugated cardboard.

You may notice also (especially if you click on that top image to make it larger) that I have used a few leftover pieces of the mixed media sticky tape that I created from the tissue paper way back when I did this tutorial. They are in the top left of two of the photos on my layout.

Tissue Paper - Day 1

Hi Everyone,

I have a simple yet very effective technique for making your own Tissue Paper flowers.... I've used Collections Tissue Paper to create a heap for this layout.

Made in just 3 easy steps:

Step 1 - Cut off a strip of the tissue paper, for the larger flowers I've cut off 1 inch; the smaller ones are 1/2 inch or less.

Step 2 - Gather the strip up - scrunching as you go along one side. Naturally it will want to form a circle.

Step 3 - Wrap the strip around onto itself and add a centre. For some I've used new Prima and others I've used My Minds Eye brads

AND once you have the knack, you can take this a step further by adding paint or glimmer mist, kindy glitz etc.... oh soo many options!!
